The Ministry of the Holy Spirit – Pentecost Sunday Excerpt – 19.05.24

37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

John 7:37-39 – KJV

“Believing practically looks like drinking. One of the many portraits describing the relationship we have with Christ is that of drinking (John 7:37–39). The Lord Jesus Christ presents those who believe in Him [fellowship with Him] as drinking of Him. While the intoxication of this world will cause you to see double, when we drink of Christ, all other visions, all other options, get cleared, and we begin to see clearly with a single eye. The world is about to be flooded with the knowledge of the glory of God, with the love of Christ, the mercy of Christ, His healing virtues, and wholeness flowing through you.

The Lord Jesus Christ, from the right hand of the Father, has sent forth the Spirit, whose empirical evidence is the gathering of the Church. Unlike the Eternal Person of the Son, the Holy Spirit is not incarnate. He dwells in us, acts through us, and His operations rely on our willingness, on our response. The activities of the Spirit are seen and heard; the supernatural sights and sounds of the Spirit’s activities continue the ministry of Jesus Christ through His Church. The Holy Spirit has come to minister through us. He has qualified you by equipping you to be an effective minister. His constant supply has quenched our thirst so that we can minister to the thirsty.”
